Below, you will find brief descriptions, web-links and contact information for most of our Delaware Community Partner Agencies, as well as a few relevant opportunities in the greater Columbus area. ABLE (Adult Basic Literacy Education) – The Delaware Joint Vocational School (JVS) ABLE program provides free instruction in basic academic skills, GED preparation, English for speakers of other languages, (ESL), and life-skills instruction for developmentally delayed adults. The free classes are offered at various locations around the county. ABLE uses volunteer tutors in classrooms to work one-on-one with adult learners, and sometimes to teach math classes including beginning algebra and geometry. The ESL classes use volunteers as conversation partners and to help with reading comprehension and writing. AFTER SCHOOL LEARNING CENTERS – OWU students wishing to make a difference in a child's life by helping them succeed in school should consider volunteering their time working with children in the 21st Century Learning Centers at Woodward Elementary, Conger Elementary, Willis Intermediate and Dempsey Middle Schools. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the school year. Background and reference checks are necessary but worth the extra effort for children. ALCOHOL, DRUG AND TOBACCO EDUCATION/PREVENTION PROGRAMS - Please see Recovery and Prevention Resources, (RPR), and STAND UP

ALPHA GROUP – Alpha Group is a non-profit organization located off London Road at 1000 Alpha Drive. Their mission is to work cooperatively with individuals with disabilities to provide social and recreational opportunities, related services and supports necessary to enhance the individual's quality of life. They look for mentors who are able to commit to one-on-one time, as well as to help/participate in group outings. ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION of Central Ohio – (Delaware Branch) – Provides in-home assessment, information, education and counseling for caregivers and families living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Also provides in-service training, a lending library, speakers, community education, and support group meetings. Volunteers can assist with general administrative duties via computer; observe staff during home visits; become involved in educational programs, support groups and special events such as the annual Memory Walk fundraising event. Training and supervision are provided by the staff. The ideal volunteer will have an interest in the older adult population or experience with Alzheimer's disease. AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY - The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service. Students can join in this mission through participating in fund-raising events such as the Relay for Life, or joining a Colleges Against Cancer chapter. Colleges Against Cancer is a nationwide collaboration of students, faculty and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by initiating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society. AMERICAN RED CROSSThe Delaware County Chapter of the American Red Cross is located at 380 Hills-Miller Road. Volunteers are needed for many projects ranging from quick one time events to on-going opportunities like instructing classes in CPR, First Aid, Water Safety or helping out in the office. This chapter has a children's identification program that is offered throughout the community, and information tables at health fairs, etc. are frequent needs. OWU students play an active role in bloodmobiles on campus and other sites. They can also train and respond with the Disaster Team. ANDREWS HOUSE – Andrews House is a restored historical building which houses many social service agencies, and provides meeting space for community groups. Volunteers are always needed to help in the computer learning center; to prepare and serve meals on the Second Friday and Third Thursday of each month; to help with day-to-day maintenance/up-keep of the facility and with fund-raising efforts. Andrews House is located on the corner of W. Winter and N. Franklin Streets at 39 W. Winter. BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS – Located in Andrews House, (39 W. Winter Street), Big Brothers Big Sisters provides carefully screened adult volunteers to serve as friends and role models to children from one parent and non-traditional families. BBBS enjoys a significant partnership with Ohio Wesleyan through Willis Big Brothers and Big Sisters, a school-based tutoring and mentoring program which translates well for the limitations imposed by the college academic calendar. B.R.E.A.D. - Building Responsibility, Equality and Dignity, BREAD is a congregation-based community organization in Columbus, Ohio. It was founded by 23 congregations in September of 1996 to be a vehicle for justice. The organization has successfully addressed a number of critical community issues such as access to health care, transportation, education and affordable housing. Today, BREAD is composed of 50 religious congregations and over 40,000 people representing a broad range of traditions: Pentecostal, Jewish, Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Unitarian Universalist, Holiness, Reformed, United Church of Christ and Presbyterian among others. These congregations come from throughout Franklin County and though diverse, share a common faith tradition to pursue justice. To learn more, call (614) 220-9363. CANINE COMPANIONS FOR INDEPENDENCE® – Canine Companions, (CCI), is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with physical disabilities and hearing impairment by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. Volunteers are needed to help with fund-raising and special events. CCI is located at 4989 State Route 37 East. The Central Ohio Diabetes Association - Located at 1100 Dennison Avenue in Columbus, Ohio (43201), the Central Ohio Diabetes Association is an independent organization providing services to people with diabetes in Central Ohio regardless of their ability to pay. It is not affiliated with any national organization and all funds raised stay in Central Ohio to provide services. Each Spring, Ohio Wesleyan hosts a "Swim for Diabetes" event to help raise funds for this worthy cause. Interested students can contact the agency by calling (614) 884-4400.

CITY YEAR COLUMBUS - is a proud member of AmeriCorps, is a national service organization that unites young adults, ages 17 to 24, from diverse backgrounds for an intense ten-months of full-time community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. In locations across the United States, corps members invest their talents and energy to address our country’s most critical needs. The Columbus Foundation - Located at 1234 E. Broad Street in Columbus, the mission of The Columbus Foundation is to assist donors and others in strengthening and improvingthe community for the benefit of all its citizens. Founded in 1943, The Columbus Foundation offers resources, knowledge and expertise in charitable giving. In 2006, the Foundation awarded 72.3 million dollars to 6,582 nonprofit organizations. Columbus Recreation and Parks - The Columbus Recreation and Parks Department seeks groups, organizations, and individuals to assist in a wide variety of activities, events, and programs throughout the year. If you enjoy working at special events, outdoor education, natural resources, golf, cultural arts, youth theatre, or in one of our beautiful parks, they can help. COMMON GROUND FREE STORE MINISTRIES – (193 E. Central Ave.) is a warm and welcoming store, run by volunteers, where needed items are available to everyone free of charge – clothing, shoes, linens, small appliances, books and toys. There are no income requirements – just the support of people who care. There are many volunteer opportunities – helping to run the store, sorting clothing, re-stocking racks and shelves, and hospitality. COMMUNITY NUTRITION SERVICE – (Also known as the Delaware County Senior Nutrition Program) The Council for Older Adults, in partnership with Grady Memorial Hospital provides a nutritious noon meal to Delaware City and County homebound residents who are 60 years or older and unable to prepare their own meals. Volunteers are frequently in great demand to deliver the meals. To volunteer you should have a valid driver's license, an insured vehicle, and two free hours once a week between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. In return, you receive mileage reimbursement and a free lunch! CONNECTIONS – The Delaware County Volunteer Center – Located in Andrews House, (39 W. Winter), Connections is a central clearinghouse for volunteering in Delaware County. Connections recruits, screens and refers volunteers to meet community needs. They have provided many opportunities for personal and professional growth and development through in-depth workshops and training programs. OWU students can help Connections directly with office support services, or they can take advantage of the large menu of requests for volunteers to find the perfect service learning or internship placement. COUNCIL FOR OLDER ADULTS & SENIOR CHOICES – An agency whose mission is "to improve the quality of life for older Delaware County residents," the Council provides a clearinghouse of information, assistance and services for older adults and their families. Services available are medical transportation, home delivered meals, adult day care, homemaker services, personal care, respite care, chore services, durable medical equipment and emergency response service, as well as home repairs, insurance counseling, prescription assistance, and other services such as providing nutritional supplements, legal aid clinic, and income tax assistance. The Council also publishes a newsletter, The Council Communicator. OWU students are welcome to help with any of the above programs or to develop an internship with this agency. DELAWARE CITY SCHOOLS – (see After School Learning Centers) – Many opportunities to serve the children of Delaware are available through campus programs such as Willis Big Brothers Big Sisters, Latino Outreach, and After School Tutoring. Additionally, OWU students are welcomed to tutor students working to pass proficiency tests, to aid with enrichment programs, to help with basic reading and math skills. OWU enjoys a particularly close relationship with Woodward Elementary School, (200 S. Washington Street), and Willis Middle School, (74 W. William Street). DELAWARE COUNTY BOARD OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES – Located at 106 Stover Drive, the Board serves county residents with developmental disabilities from birth until services are no longer wanted/needed. DELAWARE COUNTY CULTURAL ARTS CENTER"The Arts Castle" – A non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing creative energies through teaching and practice of the arts. The Arts Castle provides classes, exhibits, concerts, a gift shop, special events, and much more. Art majors, or those interested in the arts, are sought to help host events, set up exhibitions, or help with day-to-day chores necessary for general up-keep and maintenance of the facility. Internships are available for those interested in public relations, communications, special events planning, marketing, small business management, and art gallery administration. The Arts Castle is located at 190 W. Winter Street, on the corner of Elizabeth Street, across from Sanborn Hall and Austin Manor. Call (740) 369-2787 to explore the many volunteer opportunities.

DELAWARE COUNTY DISTRICT LIBRARY – Located at 84 E. Winter Street, (one block past THE STRAND move theatre), the library serves as a resource for Delaware County residents through literature, reference information, videos, DVD's, periodicals, books on tape, the bookmobile, special events, programs and meeting rooms. Volunteers can mend or shelve books, help children learn to use the computer system, or do general housekeeping and landscaping chores. DELAWARE COUNTY JUVENILE COURT – The student internship program provides an opportunity to participate in a unique and intensive self-directed experience, specifically in working with youth and families. The key focal areas: Assist Intake and Probation Officers in receiving and processing of complaints; Observe and conduct Pre-Sentence Investigations; Assist in the facilitation of positive activities with court-involved youth such as bowling, ice skating, camping, and canoeing; Participate in regular supervision with a field supervisor.   • TEAM Mentoring Program – The court has established a mentoring program for court-involved youth, and for non-involved youth who have potential warning signs. THE DELAWARE COUNTY OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - Located at 10 Court Street, the main goal of this county office is to save lives, prevent injuries, and protect property and the environment from "all hazards" - natural, manmade, or terrorism. In the event of a disaster, they coordinate the county's resources and agencies to reduce the impact it has on the county. They strive to expedite the restoration of public services, the rehabilitation and recovery of individuals and businesses, and to re-establish normal day-to-day operations in the community. They seek volunteers to assist in reaching this goal. Volunteers can help with everything from general office work, to outreach work with schools, businesses and the community. DELAWARE GENERAL HEALTH DISTRICT – Offices are located at 1 and 3 W. Winter Street. The Health Department offers a full range of public health services from prenatal care and child and adult immunization services to hypertension screening, a reproductive health and STD clinic, anonymous HIV testing, workshops, the "Safe Kids" car seat program, and much more.   • Keep Delaware County Beautiful focuses attention and volunteer resources on environmental health issues including safe disposal of household hazardous waste, recycling, and river, park and highway clean-up projects.   • "It Takes Two" – Relationship and sexuality education program for 7th, 8th and 9th graders in Delaware County. Ohio Wesleyan Students are recruited to help facilitate the program through role play and classroom discussion. DELAWARE SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT - By working with this conservation organization, students can actively participate in projects which benefit water quality and the environment in Delaware County and beyond. Special events, such as river sweeps, Earth Day activities, community festivals, storm drain labeling, conservation plantings, conservation workshops and clinics, and stream assessments and monitoring are just a few of the many community service learning projects and activities offered through the District. Participant interest in these special projects may later lead to a limited number of student internships. DELAWARE SPEECH AND HEARING CENTER - The Delaware Speech and Hearing Center was founded in 1959, and has provided high-quality communication services to the Delaware community ever since. With offices in Delaware, (494 W. Central Ave.), and Powell, the Center offers volunteer opportunities throughout the county with varying time and responsibility commitments. Volunteer needs range from landscaping and administrative projects, to potential long-term positions within agency programs. The Delaware Speech and Hearing Center is the only agency of its kind in Delaware County, and it serves area residents of all ages. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE - (ESL) - Please see ABLE and Andrews House

ERGON EMPLOYMENT SOLUTIONS – Provides employment services to people with disabilities. Services include vocational readiness, job training/coaching, resume development, rehabilitative services, employee training, and community access assistance. OWU students are welcomed as job coaches and/or to explore other ways they can gain valuable hands-on experience. Offices are located at 1000 Alpha Drive. FIRSTLINK - FIRSTLINK's Mission is to strengthen and enhance the quality of life in the greater Columbus community by mobilizing volunteers and connecting people to critical community resources. THE GLOBAL VILLAGE COLLECTION – A volunteer-operated retail shop located at 37 N. Sandusky Street that sells hand-crafted items made by artisans of developing nations. The mission of Global Village is to create economic opportunities and fair wages for people in these countries. Store hours include week days, weekends and some evenings, making it an ideal service opportunity for OWU students. GRADY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL – Located at 561 W. Central Avenue, Grady offers many patient-related and non-patient related volunteer opportunities including work with varied services to the public. Volunteers are vital to the operation of the on-site snack bar and gift shop, as well as the Hospice Program, and much more. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – The Delaware County Affiliate Chapter of Habitat for Humanity partners with low-income families to build decent, basic affordable housing. OWU students are welcome to help with building homes, serving on the board, and on committees. Volunteering is easy by visiting the webpage. EYEWITNESS

HARBOR LIGHT HOSPICE - Provides training for volunteers to become an essential part of the team caring for hospice patients and their families. Training is based on each volunteer's interest and experience so they can choose to participate in direct patient care, office work, or arts and entertainment. The Columbus District Office is located at 751 Brooksedge Plaza Drive in Westerville, Ohio. HELPLINEHelpLine of Delaware and Morrow Counties, Inc. is a 24 hour crisis/suicide prevention and information referral hotline staffed by volunteers and HelpLine staff. A 40 hour training program teaches potential volunteers such skills as active listening, effective communication and crisis management. Volunteers must commit to one year of service after training. This is an opportunity to acquire valuable life skills while helping others, especially recommended for students interested in careers in counseling, social work, and education. Many other service learning opportunities are available through HelpLine programs, including:

  • SARN (Sexual Assault Response Network) – Caring individuals are recruited to provide emotional support, information and community referrals to survivors of sexual assault. Forty hours of intensive training are required to participate. Active listening, effective communication, crisis management, legal issues, and dynamics of sexual assault, are among the issues covered in the training. (Please note, due to the nature of the work, all SARN volunteers must have access to their own transportation when they are on-call.)

HICKORY KNOLL EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER – A county supported program located at 4981 County Home Road, Hickory Knoll provides early childhood programs for children identified with disabilities from birth to six years old. They serve children birth to three also known as Early Intervention in approximately six center-based classes. This program is family driven, requires an evaluation and placement through the HELP ME GROW system. This program also has a home based component with families receiving services at home or in the community. The Preschool programs serve children age's three to six. Children are placed at Hickory Knoll by the local school district after the child has been identified as eligible for preschool services through IDEA. There is also a satellite classroom at the Liberty Community Center. Hickory knoll is particularly appropriate for those majoring in Early Childhood Education, Pre- Medicine, Adapted Physical Education, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, or Social Work. HUMANE SOCIETY of Delaware CountyIs a "Low-Kill" shelter which provides dogs and cats for adoption and investigates cruelty to animals. Accepts stray cats and owner-surrendered cats and dogs by appointment. Low cost spay and neuter service is available. OWU students are very welcome to help with exercising the dogs, socializing the cats and kittens, and to help with general maintenance and up-keep. Assistance with fund-raising, special events, and other contributions are, of course, always welcome! The Humane Society is located at 4920 State Route 37 East. INTERNSHIPS - Ohio Wesleyan has a long history of substantive working relationships with numerous area agencies which range from paid internships to class credit arranged through various Academic Departments on campus. To explore these options students should consult with their Academic Advisors, Department Chairs, visit the OWU Career Services Office, or the Community Service Learning Office. LIBERTY COMMUNITY CENTER, (LCC) – Located South of Campus at 207 London Road. (Take Liberty south until it ends in London Rd, and then go right 1 block to Neil Street. The parking lot is behind the building off of Neil.) LCC is a licensed day care center and is accredited by the Ohio Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The Center serves children from 6 weeks through 3rd grade. Class sizes are kept small and activities are based on a developmental curriculum. The Rainbow Program is a pre-school program for special needs children administered through Hickory Knoll School and the Delaware Board of MRDD. LCC serves a diverse ethnic, and economic group of families. Parents Escape, a free support group and teaching program for parents, meets Monday evenings from 5:30-7:30 with childcare provided. OWU students are welcomed to help with play-time, reading stories, special events, field trips, facility up-keep and just to spend time with the children. THE LITERACY COALITION OF DELAWARE COUNTYThe Literacy Coalition's mission is to promote literacy in Delaware County by increasing awareness of literacy issues, enhancing the quality of literacy service and promoting collaboration regarding literacy related issues, including ESOL. Volunteers are needed to provide program participants with the support and help they need to become successful readers. Classes are offered in a wide variety of locations around the community. A new after school program known as WS2, which stands for Willis Students and William Street United Methodist Church, provides homework help to 5th and 6th graders on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 pm in the church social room. OWU Volunteers are actively sought as tutors for this exciting new partnership. MAP Furniture Bank - The MAP (Material Assistance Providers) Furniture Bank is a nonprofit organization providing free furniture and household appliances to Central Ohio families living in empty houses. The Furniture Bank exists entirely through the generous contributions of money, furniture and time from individuals, corporations, charitable foundations and area social service agency partners. Mid-Ohio Workers Association - Located at 1392 E. Weber Road in Columbus, Ohio (43211), the Mid-Ohio Workers Association is building a grass-roots movement to fight for real solutions for working people and to end government policies which exacerbate conditions of poverty. Run entirely by volunteers, the MWA also recruits student volunteers to help educate others about the plight of thousands of low wage workers in Central Ohio who are not covered by Union contracts or Federal Labor Laws. These include seasonal workers, domestics, and temporary workers who make a large part of the workforce yet have no one to help them when needed. For more information call the MWA at 614-262-0567.

NURSING HOMES and RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES – Most of the Nursing Homes and Retirement Communities in Delaware welcome visitors and volunteers, including OWU students. However, it is always well-advised to call the volunteer coordinator and arrange for a visit in advance. Those facilities which have actively sought student involvement are listed as follows:

Ohio Hispanic Coalition - The Ohio Hispanic Coalition (OHCO) was founded in 1990 as an advocacy agency; today it has grown into a multi-service agency serving the growing Latino/Hispanic community in Ohio. OHCO serves a vulnerable population, one who faces multiple barriers such as limited English proficiency and a lack of access to services and programs that are culturally and linguistically competent. The mission of the Ohio Hispanic Coalition is to improve the well being and quality of life of all Latinos through advocacy, education, training and access to quality services. PEOPLE IN NEED – (PIN) – Located at 274 N. Sandusky Street, PIN serves as Delaware County's Food Pantry and provides a number of emergency services for families in need. Other services include assistance with utility bills, housing and medical needs such as prescriptions and equipment rental. PIN also offers a diabetes program, a dental services fund, eye glasses, school shoes, and family development/advocacy services. Holiday Clearing House is a major program of PIN. It provides new toys, new clothing and food to families and senior shut-ins during the holiday season. Ohio Wesleyan students are welcomed to help with sorting and stocking non-perishables, to help with fund-raisers and food drives, to work at Holiday Clearing House, and to do general house-keeping and maintenance projects at the PIN offices. Planet Aid - Planet Aid is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the environment and creating sustainable development in Africa and Asia. They collect and recycle used clothing and shoes in 19 states in the USA. Items donated to Planet Aid are resold and the proceeds are used to support education, community development and HIV/AIDS programs in Africa and Asia. They partner with individuals, schools, organization, companies and government agencies to inform and contribute to community based development. PRESERVATION PARKS OF DELAWARE COUNTY – Preservation Parks exists to preserve open spaces; to provide environmental education, and to make parks available to all citizens of Delaware County. Opportunities include nature center staffing, general maintenance projects, highway cleanup, nature education classroom assistance, general office duties, assistance with special events, trail maintenance, fence removal, and other projects as they arise. RECOVERY AND PREVENTION RESOURCES OF DELAWARE & MORROW COUNTIES – The mission of RPR is "to provide the highest quality alcohol and other drug treatment, intervention, prevention and education services to all citizens of Delaware County." RPR is a non-profit, community-based agency which has provided drug and alcohol treatment to Delaware County for more than 25 years. They are always looking for volunteers to help with the "Prevention Players" and to staff the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade retreats. These retreats are not overnight, but do last for a total of two days, usually on weekends. OWU students who are energetic, enthusiastic, and enjoy working with children and youth are most welcome. THE SALVATION ARMY – Located at 252 Curtis Street, the Salvation Army is a Christian organization which provides many outreach services to the community including a food pantry, Columbia Gas help, children's programs, Lake Greenwood Summer Camp, Praise Band, etc. Volunteers can assist with answering telephones and ringing bells for the annual Christmas Kettle donations. Scioto Juvenile Correctional Facility - OWU students looking to make an investment in their future are invited to volunteer at the Scioto Juvenile Correctional Facility. Many of the SJCF programs are suitable for students majoring in psychology, sociology, education and pre-law. Scioto utilizes volunteers in a variety of areas in the facility such as health & fitness, nursing, social work, and education.  The SJCF is located in Southern Delaware County at 5993 Home Road. SPECIAL OLYMPICS OHIO – Special Olympics Ohio, (SOOH), provides year-round sports and training competition opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. STAND UP - Delaware County STAND UP Leadership Team - A structured group of high school teens who are making a difference in Delaware County through serving as positive role models for changing the cultural acceptance of tobacco, drug and alcohol use. The members STAND UP to promote positive self images, positive mental health, end teen tobacco abuse, promote healthy relationship choices, and the well-being of the environment. Sponsors include the Delaware General Health District, HelpLine of Delaware and Morrow Counties, Recovery and Prevention Resources, the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation, and other local and national agencies. Ohio Wesleyan students are welcome to join with STAND UP for group activities and to serve as mentors and role models for the high school students. STRATFORD ECOLOGICAL CENTER – Located at 3083 Liberty Road, (South of town off of London Road), Stratford Ecological Center is dedicated to the education of children and adults in understanding the relationships between living things and their environment. The mission is to foster an appreciation of the land and all life that depends on it. They provide a perfect setting for farm and field trips for schools or scout groups and various adult education programs. The ecological center offers (paid) supervised internships in sustainable agricultural and environmental education for area college and university students. Volunteer opportunities for individuals and small groups include: education guides; gardeners; farm hands, etc. An excellent service learning site for students majoring in, or planning a career in the following fields: environmental education, agriculture, horticulture, K-12 education, biology, microbiology, and veterinary science. TEEN START Inc. is a non-profit organization with the mission to enhance the social development of teens and young adults through life skills training, mentoring, experiential learning and cultural exposure activities that will prepare them to be Self-sufficient, Responsible and Prepared for adulthood. Their services include independent living trainings such as spirituality, goal setting, communication skills, personal and professional etiquette, job skills and maintenance, nutrition, money management, domestic violence prevention, interpersonal skills development, anger management and coping skills, health/sexuality and teen relationships, legal, emergency, and safety skills. Mentors/Life-coaches are recruited to provide support, encouragement, guidance, and to hold the youth accountable for their actions. The Delaware Teen Start office is located in Andrews House, 39 W. TURNING POINT – Provides shelter and programming for battered women and their children. Services include food, clothing and transportation; individual and group education and support; victims’ rights advocacy; community-based support groups; batterers’ intervention; community education and a 24-hour crisis line. Students who wish to volunteer or develop an internship are always welcome. Duties can include public relations work, child-care, telephone assistance and routine home maintenance work. UNITED WAY – This community-based organization encourages cooperation among local, state and national agencies serving the community. The United Way of Delaware County assists organizations in developing new ways to meet the needs of people with problems and raises funds for the member agencies. Interested students are most welcome to help with fund-raising activities, general office support tasks, and by supporting the volunteer needs of the member agencies in Delaware. VICTIM SERVICES – Sponsored by the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office, Victim Services provides support for any survivors of serious felony offenses. They provide victims/survivors of crime with information about the criminal justice system; assistance with victim impact statements, as well as victims of crime compensation and explanation of survivors' rights. They notify victims/survivors of judicial hearings; accompany them to all stages of the criminal justice system; make appropriate referrals to community resources, and help with protection orders. Students wishing to volunteer must complete an application, interview and screening process followed by a 40 hour training program. Upon completion of the training, students accompany staff to actual court hearings while learning about all steps of the criminal justice system. Serious candidates are given the opportunity to work independently with victims/survivors, making this an invaluable internship experience for students interested in law, criminology, social work and counseling. Students majoring in Psychology, Sociology, Politics and Government or Pre-Law are strongly encouraged to apply. Class credit is available in some cases. Volunteers must possess the ability to be punctual, compassionate with survivors, and dedicated to the work. Confidentiality is an absolute must.
